The Healing Series

There have a been a lot of changes in my life since last year. My partner of 30 years passed in August of 2023 and I moved to Santa Fe in December of 2023. I wanted to close to where more was happening in the art world. 

At the start of the new year with all the changes I had been making I wanted to do a series dedicated to him but I wanted to do it right so I waited until it felt right. I don't know how long the series is going to be but at the moment it has really been helping with my healing and moving on with my life. I've always said making art has been therapy for me but with this series it really hits home. It has been making me dance, cry and the chills keep going up and down my body so I know I'm on the right track.

So far all the pieces in the series are 24 x 24 inches in size. I start of with an eco-print or a cyanotype on the base. I love texture so I put down some plaster and on top of that I add cold wax. All the pieces have three elements added to them to stand for the three decades we were together.  Some have clays bowls with what I can small blessing of bags with cedar inside the bags. Cedar is used during ceremonials. I was thinking about putting corn pollen in the bags but the weave of the silk isn't tight enough to hold the pollen so cedar was a better fit.
